I tried a gimmick like this a few years ago, it didn't work at all for the dent on my drivers side door.

My biggest concern with this is the effect on the paint, True paintless dent repair is done with metal rods.

I did a few searches and found various reports of it working and not working. I'm going to guess ambient temp and how hot you can get the car prior to starting might be a large factor in this as well as the size of the dent. I think I'll go all myth-busters on this one when I get my car out of storage
