well I remember puff mentioned he wanted to install indash nav in his s2k> well I went to a install shop today and they want 1500 to install it they said they had to pull the whole dash out and then fiberglass around the screen so it looks good. what do you guys think of the price and can it be done cheaper without sacrificing the way it will look?

$1500 for just installation??? from the DIY's it didn't look like others took out the dash to make a cut out. either way, your looking at $2000+ just for having a screen in the dash board

nvm...i shouldn't be talking if anything, just check out other shop quotes

i definitely want to get this done sometime soon

That sound about right if they are going to FAB the trim for the screen .. custom work takes time .. it is not like a radio swap

Another option is to find the JDM bezel for the factory nav . You just need to find a screen that fits it right in the bezel .. There are a few here that have done it

Doesn't Jeff have an in-dash LCD screen of some sort?

JDM bezel is the way to go. Then you can DIY with a sawzall.

Even with the JDM bezel is a lot of work. Remember it's made/contoured for tilting toward the right side of the cabin. Even if you paid $1500 for the shop to do it there a good chance it might not turn out they way that you like. It's a big job.

Don't go JDM unless you can fab yourself. The JDM bezel require a ton of work to make it fit right, but less than making a new one if that makes any sense

$1500 is about right... and depending on the work you get that might be considered cheap. Its take a while to make the custom bracket. They will spend quite a few hours taking everything apart. This can be done without removing the dash its just harder, I've done it. I actually think building it in the car although trickier will give you a better fit and finish due to the fact they are building it in place so all the angles will be right. Sometimes its hard to build things like this outside the car. You can finish it on the bench but it really should be build with the dash totally installed in the car.

But the people stating you can use a JDM bezel are right... the finish is hard to get right. You end up with some gaps on a few of the edges. In most cases its easier just to build one from scratch rather than trying to make a part that wasn't designed for the USDM car fit right.
