computer guys - need some help - going wifi
just ordered dsl and i figure i'll go wireless - three pcs in the house (two laptops one desktop) and one PPC
what do i need and how much can i expect to spend - quick look says i need a wireless router 8011B i think will be good enough two wireless cards for the laptops (ppc is already wifi)
and what about security as i don't want someone driving down the street to be able to get into my pcs
Thanks
Steve

Well, if you use WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol), you can keep idiots from just hopping on, but a decent hacker can still get on your network. However, you can tighten up things somewhat to keep people from dorking around. One of the best things to do is set it up so only specific MAC addresses can log on.
However, short of setting up a personal firewall on each of the machines, you're really not going to be able to make WiFi "secure" without some serious effort. As long as there isn't anything someone's likely to want to grab from your systems, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

All you have to do is this:
When setting up the router/cards, make sure you turn MAC address filtering on, and input the addresses of the cards that you want to use (your cards) and you'll be all set for the most part. Make sure you turn the firewall option on also.
