COM Track Days and Time Trials
The next event is at NHMS May 30-31st. Registration is closed for this event. You can still sign up for a hot lap ride along.
Registration for NHMS July 1-3rd is open until June 17th. Holiday 3-day weekend event (Fri-Sun). Driving school Friday-Saturday, Time Trial competition and open track (time permitting) on Sunday. Licensed members may attend any combination of days, students must attend either or both school days and may also attend the Time Trial day with approval from their instructor.
Fees for this event: $225 single day, $425 any two days, $575 all three days. Participants earn 20 Frequent Driver Points per track day at this event.
Students will get four 20+ min. sessions on the track, one on one with an instructor, as well as classroom instruction on the first day of the event. Students that exhibit good car control, drive within their limits, and are safe to drive solo will get signed off to drive and compete on the second day. The second day is split with open practice in the morning (typically two 25-30min sessions) and a time trial (Time Attack, yo!) in the afternoon. There are no student groups or instruction scheduled on the second day. However, instructors are still available to those who need them.
The time trial is 3 timed hot laps without any traffic. COM is one of the only clubs that can offer anyone an open track all to themselves, even if it is just for 3 laps. You keep your best lap time.
Depending on attendance and how smoothly the time trials go, there could be 20 min to an hour of open track after the time trials. That's a total of 2-3+ hours of seat time over 2 days.
Abbreviated S2000 time trial classing - consult rule book for complete rules.
SSGT/ST1/SPC/PC Turbo or S/C S2k's get bumped to SPB or PB.
Arm restraints and an aftermarket roll bar that passes the 'broom stick test' is required on all convertibles.
Stock (SS)- tires, brake pads and brake lines, DOT tires
Street Touring (ST)- Intake, exhaust (must have a cat), ECU tune (no piggyback or standalone), wheels (dia. & width), suspension, OEM brake upgrade, DOT tires
Street Prepared (SP)- retain OEM look, body lines (no fender flares), OEM frame & subframe, retain street running gear (wipers, glass, lights, interior), DOT tires, anything else goes. NA 4cyl SPC, Turbo 4 cyl SPB
Prepared (P)- Now anything goes! Requires cage, fire suit, 5pt belts - N/A 4cyl cars PC, turbo 4cyl PB, 6cyl turbo PA

You're fine if you have a hard top or window net. You need equal safety equipment for your instructor. So if you have a race seat and 6pts on the drivers side, you need them on the passenger side as well, until you get signed off to solo.

In an open car, drivers must have goggles or face shield in place while on course; if vehicle is equipped with a stock windshield, eyeglasses, or sunglasses will be accepted.
An “open car” is defined as a convertible, Targa, T-Top, or other vehicle that has no solid roof structure as delivered from the factory (e.g. formula car, sports racer, etc.) An open car with a soft top raised is still considered an open car.
An open car with a hardtop in place is considered a closed car for the purposes of this rule.

COM restructured their SS and ST classes before this season. Due to the power/weight, the S2000 got bumped up to ST1/SSGT from ST2/SSA
SSGT lap record is 1:21.7 Cayman (The SSA lap record is held by an S2k @1:22.9)
ST1 lap record is 1:19.5 STi (which is actually slower than the ST2 record of 1:18.7)
SPC lap record is 1:18.1 M3
PC lap record is 1:17.5 S2k
SPC is possibly the most fun and competitive class that the S2000 has potential to do well in since its a 4cyl NA class. A little aero and grippy tires will make for a very fast SPC S2000. Anything faster than a 1:20 is a quick lap time. Don't expect a very fast or competitive time on street tires. Bring your V710s or A6's.
Correct, all convertibles need an aftermarket roll bar and arm restraints.
