No present for Steve, eh?

We don't buy for a lot of people, and we've never been big on spending crazy amounts of cash on Christmas. Heck, we'd rather take that cash and go on vacation!

We only buy for my Mom, my son, and his family, and a I write a few checks for a niece and nephews.

Mostly we hand out cash, gift certificates. For the grand kids, I'll shop around a bit, but that's no picnic either, they don't need a thing.

It would never fly.

She's always enjoyed the holiday, whereas I, (in case it was not known), would prefer to leave town until January 2nd.
I'm with you, someone needs to start an island where we can go until Jan. 2.

You don't have to TELL her that's what you're doing, there must be something
you could ask for that you could inevitably give back to her in some way.

The 2008 stock market gave a better return than that investment.

So let me get this straight Erick - Wendell's +1 is your Christmas elf? Now that's a scary thought!!!!

Yup the holidays are crazy. I agree the exchanging of gift cards, when no gift is really necessary is a bit silly. I think people feel they should give something to show the receiver they care. But somtimes no material thing is needed - how about just giving someone your time to help out instead.

Like for instance - in the case of aging parents if they need stuff done around the house they can no longer do themselves, give them a "gift certificate" for one day's worth of work, etc.

I've gotten quite a bit of my Christmas shopping done this weekend so I'm in pretty good shape. There might be a couple more things I'll pick up on a whim if I'm so inclined but for the most part everyone's done.

They call that "re-gifting" and some folks just don't appreciate the concept, especially if you give them back that gift they got for you.

I don't get a tie rack this holiday season.
