Christmas shopping/lists
Well the season is upon us. Family members are already asking about Christmas gifts. I can NOT make my Mom understand that we do NOT need or want anything for Christmas. She buys for our son and his wife (likely a gift certificate) and for my two grandchildren, as well as us.
She lives on a fixed income and purchases things within her means, but I'd really, rather she not buy Rick and me anything. I'd rather she keep the $ she would spend on us and spend it on a senior citizen day trip or something. My siblings feel the same way, but Mom can be stubborn. The family continues to grow, and even with small gifts, it gets expensive.
When Christmas gift giving comes down to us giving cash and the other person giving a gift certificate, I think it's time review.
Yeah, or Nay?

Christmas is easy for me, no one buys me any gifts, and in turn... I don't buy any for anyone else. It's business as usual, only with a lot more decorative lights as I drive down the street.

I buy for who i have to buy for, and it's usually gift cards.
My son, 1 member of my immediate family (we draw names) and my
nephew, that's it. My friends and I have agreed to spend the money
on their families instead.
Quick and painless.

For example, have her get you a <favorite restaurant> gift certificate then
take her out for dinner with it.

Ask your mother for something that you can give back to her.
She's always enjoyed the holiday, whereas I, (in case it was not known), would prefer to leave town until January 2nd.
