Your son should sue his "friend" for damages and the state should go after him for leaving the scene of an accident. Some friend.

Most importantly though that they are both ok.

Bill, glad your son is ok.

If he learns the lesson from this (who wouldn't?), the price is not too much to pay.

I'm wondering if alcohol was involved if the kid just ran off like that

Thanks everyone. Scott, you are correct about his friends. It was his car that got crashed, not mine. He will have to deal with this himself, but yes, he really should go after the kid who crashed his car.

Chris has a good habit in that he does not drive if he has been drinking. (Not that going out in your car to drink is a good habit, but I'm not expecting miracles.) That is what happened here. Now, who knows if the driver was any better off than Chris was? He still hasn't called.

Bill...would it not be fair to make the following scenario suggestion?:

Father: "Son, who did this to your car?"

Son: "Umm...a friend of mine."

Father: "Son, let me know the name of your friend and let's you and I together go pay a visit to this friend of your's family's home. Let's talk to him and his parents...explaining to them how poor of character it is to leave a 'friend' to swing in the wind financially this way."

Son: "Umm...okay..."

Sorry to hear this Bill.

We've got a guy down here (ATL) that had his teenage son total a new Cooper Mini. When they got the check from insurance, he got an Altima SE-R and proceeded to total that one. Both were lone spinouts. I think he's walking to get around now.

Glad Chris wasn't in the S or the Bimmer.
