NO, palm pilot works on Palm operating system. Pocket PC works on just that, Windows Pocket PC operating system. Its like comparing an Apple computer to a Windows XP machine.

Falmouth would be nicer than Canton, Falmouth won't be packed and driving around Nobska, Menoit, and Woods Hole road would be fun...

I think so... esp. since the pc one I had failed me miserably. Besides you'll need a good size CF (compact flash, not carbon fiber ) or SD card to store sufficient mapping so you don't have to keep uploading different map section as you need it. The harddrive in pocket pc is just not big enough.

But the true-blue ones are still kinda pricy. And I want a color one w/ voice. I'm waiting for the prices to drop...

I got a Garming GPS V Deluxe. It's nice small and does turn by turn directions..............Under 400 bones too.

Better and color. http://www.garmin.com/products/spIII/

Glenn is that better?

Only issue I have with the GPS V is that it is slow to load up new info an the memory is not replaceable which would help with upload speed.

I like it though..............just takes planning if you go out of your normal area and need detailed maps.

Dude, the Street Pilot III is "out." The 2610 is the model to get at ~720 bones on eBay. Comes w/ a 128 MB CF too.

Arrrgh! Too much info!!!

Ok, I want something I can take from car to car and then to my boat too. I don't want to spend $720 cause I'm cheap. Help me out here. Jim, this could be a sale for you.

Well, you can go out and by a Streetpilot or something that ONLY does GPS nav. Downside to that is that it ONLY does GPS.

The way I have mine set up it does exactly wat the "real" nav systems do: voice comands, turn by turn directions, auto re-routing, color screen, huge pre defined list of points of interest like shopping, banks, hospitals, etc.

Plus to get this thing set up, it only cost me around $200. And, it can be cheaper too. The other up-side to the Pocket PC route is that it is much smaller to lug around than that huge streetpilot.

I can't see paying $700+ for a device that ONLY does GPS. Don't forget the pocket PC is still very useful for a variety of things. I have a maintenance and gas milage tracker on mine as well as a bunch of other good programs.

If you are looking for a nav setup, I would try the Pocket PC way before commiting any more than $300 to anything else short of an in-dash setup.

Man, I must sound like a salesman....
