some years ago my grandmother died.
My sister borrowed my aunt car for the night to go back to her apartment.
The next morning she went to start the car and heard this ungodly howl come from under the hood.
one of the neighbors cats had crawled in to the hood area and gotten snarled in the belts.
apparently my sister gave a shriek and was very upset.
My brother in law not knowing what else to do called 911 for advice.
They heard all of the screaming and howling and and they responded with 3 cruisers a fire truck and an EMT squad.
They quickly ascertained that yes it was a cat.
yes the cat was stuck.
yet no one quite had any ideas on how to extricate the cat from it's predicament.
Until on the of the fire fighters said, "hey let's get the jaws of life. "
This is where I remind you that my sister was driving our aunt's car.
SO the jaws of life option was quickly discarded.
eventually they came up with the idea that they could just cut the belts and free the cat.
It was just after this point that the owner happened to saunter out and make the statement "oh smokey, I didn't know it was you"
The owner did not to pay any medical bills for the cat, so my sister brought it to the vet and about $500 later ( this is 1979 dollars mind you) it was as good as any cat that had gone through a fan belt blender session.
So smokey the cat did actually live another 12 years or so.
So the story had a happy ending.
