Default Calling wrench Masters!

DIY Brakes '97 Accord

So I'm thinking a 4 hour job......

I can't get the freaking hub/bearing out. All the hub puller does is push the axle out the back of the hub......

Any Ideas? I was thinking about taking out the whole knuckle out and pounding the hub/bearing out from behind........what an f'ing pain.

Might be a stupid question, but did you remove the 4 bolts on the back side of the hub and the spindle nut? If you have taken everything out, spray the crap out of it with PB blaster. Get it soaked in everywhere and let it sit. Then spray it all again. Once that sits, pound the rotor from different spots with a mallot or a hammer if you are trashing the rotors anyway. That may loosen anything up that has gotten rusted. Then you can try the puller thing again. Once there is some tension on the puller, try hitting the rotor again, the combination of the pulling and the shock of th strikes may free it. Otherwise I see no way but to take the knuckle off.

Yep.....and I had tried beating on the thing from behind too......

I finally decided to wedge two deep sockets between the cv casing and the knuckle to prevent the axle from moving back toward the tranny....the CV boot is none the worse for wear....

sadly I roughed up the splines along the way, I think they will be ok though.

On the bright side, I bought some nice air tools and a hub puller.

Spindle Nut + Impact wrench = easy

SOB! Started the Driver SIde this morning....thinking about 1.5 hours...easy now that I learned all my lessons from the passenger side.....

NOPE!

The bearing/hub was even more rusted into the Knuckle.....when I finally got the hub out, part of the bearing was still in the knuckle....

F-it...I repressed the bearing onto the hub....all is well and back together. I don't expect the bearing to last too long, but at least it'll be much easier to get out....and I have my technique down pat.

I need a bigger compressor.
