Thanks all for your recommendations! I really appreciate it.

I think I'm going to go with AutoZone rotors and ceramic pads and I will
flush the fluid.

Dave, brakes are cheaper to do than the tranny and it's more important
for my son to be able to stop.

The tranny has been doing pretty much the same thing for close to a year
now and it doesn't appear to be worsening...yet.

That's what my brother tells me, no changes. He has told me that, depending on how he drives the car, it's almost as if he doesn't have a tranny problem. Now when other people drive his car, they'll notice it right away.

Well I have to let off the gas when I feel it is about to go to 2nd gear so
it doesn't slam into the gear, so I'm used to doing that now.

my integra used to do that. Shift hard and have to let off the gas to make a smoother shift. I beat on it badly and the tranny started to slip after 8K miles. So take that into consideration of how long it will last not beating on it.
