Does anyone know VT roads well enough to recommend a good back-roads route from Burlington to the Mohawk trail? I promised a friend a ride up there so he can pick up a car he bought. I figure we should test it out on the way back and demonstrate why he should have bought an S.

I'd take:
rt 7 out of Burlington to Middlebury
rt 30 to Manchester
rt 7a to Bennington
rt 7 to rt 2 (Mohawk Trail)

Or for a real treat:
Take rt 89 from Burlington to Richmond exit
Go south on RT 117 to rt 17 (One hell of a road!)
follow rt 17 to New Haven, then head south on 7 to Middlebury
Then follow above directions to Mohawk Trail
