Wow great story for a 5 year old. I may wait till my boy gets 9 or 10 before I even think to teach him to shoot or accompany me for a hunt. I believe in CT you have to be 15 and with an adult to actually hunt legally.

I stand corrected first time hunters at least 11 years old can take the CT hunting safety course. But have to wait till 12 years old to hunt but has to be accompanied with a licensed adult till 16 years old.
Also if you think us hunters are taking up your precious tax dollars don't fret. The program receives 75% of its funds from the Pittman-Robertson Program. The remaining 25% state match is derived by using the value of the services provided by the volunteer instructors.
The Pittman-Robertson Program is funded by the excise tax paid by sportsmen on rifles, shotgun, ammunition, handguns and archery equipment.
