Bass! Want a woman?
Johnstone said there were similarities between animal mating rituals and what happens in modern dance clubs.
"There are lots of cues females use when choosing a mate, like a peacock puffing out its tail," he said. "Dancing for humans could signal whether a male is fit because it requires the expenditure of a lot of energy."
Nick Neave, an evolutionary psychologist at Northumbria University and one of the study's co-authors, said women may subconsciously judge how fit a man is by the fluidity of his dancing. He said their research was likely subjective and different cultures would have different measures for what constitutes good dancing.

Pshh. I call bullsh!t on that!!!
The success of modern dance clubs have nothing to do with actual dancing. They are merely a place to "be seen" and where it's socially acceptable for women to wear remarkably slutty clothing, shake the goods, and grind up against someone in public. For men, it's a place to reap the above benefits whilst providing the opportunity to piss away a lot of money to give the appearance of social status and class (buying an expensive table, buying expensive bottles of bubbly, drinks, etc).
Add a bouncer up front and a waiting line, and passersby think the club is "where it's at" and people in line are made to feel special when they eventually get in.
It's a mating ritual, for sure, but it's about money and skin, not dancing. They leverage young women's desire to feel important and sexy in order to get men to pay for the priveledge of pretending to be the ones making them feel validated.
** This is a carefully formulated hypothesis over the past 7 years, after drinking in the Dubliner in Mohegan Sun, which looks out to the entrance of the Ultra 88 club.

I just wish I could say I had to turn down offers.... but it just isn't a problem I have. It makes it easy to formulate bitter theories about the general public.
