AP2 tranny
After our little discussion over dinner about ap2 transmission I have found couple of bulletins on Honda site.
Symptom: The transnsmission intermittently pops out of 2nd gear on high RPM decleration, or 1st gear while engaging the clutch.
Propable cause: The manufacturing tolerances on 1st and 2nd gear synchros are at the limit of their specification.
Corrective action: Replace the 2nd gear set.
Transmission pops out of 4th gear.
Problem: The transmission intermittently pops out of 4th gear while driving at a steady speed or going over bumps.
Corrective Action: Replace the mainshaft 3rd gear set and 4th
Parts to be used: use 2001-2003 mainshaft 3rd gear set.
When time permits I will find the one on ap1 and post

Just read the ap1 bulletin and the only thing showing is that the tranny is popping out of the 4th gear, replace with the same parts as stated on the ap2.

Darn... this complicates my plan to go to an AP2 tranny and 4.3 ring and pinion. I was hoping those mods would get rid of my grinding when shifting from 1 to 2 and give me a nice boost in performance while still retaining decent highway RPMs. Oh well, once I get myself a house, the whole plan will become pure fantasy anyway.
