I'm not saying the seller wasn't a jerk - I wouldave been pissed. Still - there was poor communication on both sides.

Selling on a forum and selling on Craigslist are a bit different in my mind as well. Usually the comeraderie amongst the car people will lead you to make a modest effort as a seller to accommodate a fellow S2ki-er buying your stuff. Stranger or not. You still have the part to sell if it falls through, you're not missing business quotas if it takes a few more days to sell it.
And besides, some better communication on the seller's part could have solved this, which I think is the real crux of this scenario.

To elaborate my position, I'll highlight my own for sale post for the wine fridge.
I posted it here first, but I have not yet posted it anywhere else. If, after a week or so, nobody contacts me, I will post on Craigslist and then link to the ad as a follow-up in the For Sale post here. But that way, people here will know.
