Default Tax on insurance benefits

Looks like Obama is now considering a tax on health insurance benefits as a way to pay for universal health care. People who remeber the campaign will recall that John McCain said this should be considered as a way to pay for universal health, and Obama said he was against it.

So you get taxed when you use benefits?

WTF, they already tax your wages, your interest from the bank, excise tax, dining out, sales tax, steves smokes, extra for fuel and now finally a SICK tax!

Enough already.

What about the welfare rats that use the free health care this system provides? Do they pay a tax? Oh yeah, no job so how can they pay. Poor indigent bastards, right?

Nope, they tax the value of the premium as income. So if your health plan costs $12,000 a year in premiums, they will tax that $12,000 as some form of income.

On a personal level, not too concerned. Our employers are not overly generous when it comes to how much they pay of our health insurance costs.

I don't like Mr. Obama's flip flop on this, but I expect ANY elected official to do a bit of flip flopping.

It happens all the time. Remember, "READ MY LIPS, NO NEW TAXES."

I thought it was supposed to be change we could believe in. Now it seems like change you don't expect. McCain was the guy to vote against when he suggested this exact same thing. Several here said they were against him for this very reason. Now it is ok? I guess people just use principles for debating points. As long as their guy wins, who cares what he does.
