We are with you, Mike.

Neither Rick nor I have any warm fuzzy feelings when it comes to job security. I'm on part time hours for about six weeks now, no end in sight. Burning up vacation time, as I hoped it would only be a short time, but if things don't look up soon, I'll be calling unemployment for a partial claim.

We don't have debt, but we sure aren't making any major purchases. Vacation plans are scaled back compared to previous years, and other household purchases will just have to wait.

I'm sure there are some folks who feel good about their job....those working at the un employment office, perhaps? Maybe those were the people Bill saw at the boat show?

[QUOTE=SHUG,Feb 23 2009, 02:35 PM] ... The survey also says that three out of four Americans are angry about the way things are going in the country. But three out of four questioned say that things are going well for them personally.

This says it all. One in four isn't happy with their life, and they make enough noise about it to make two of the other three think that things are bad all over. I'm not suggesting that things are just fine for everyone. We are soon to reach 8% unemployment, and that is not good. But a huge percentage is still working and doing well.

I think we need some optomisim, instead of more messages about a "crisis."
Granted all the negative reporting does not help, and some areas may not be as hard hit, BUT it's also not just a matter of being happy with one's life. Lack of job security, or NO job, for you, or a family member makes it kind of hard to be optimistic.

They used to tell folks to have a rainy day fund of "X" number of months of living expenses, now it's twice "X", because the jobs to replace the one you lost just aren't there.

We do need a message of optimism, but there is no sweeping this crisis under the rug quite yet. Not until more people start to see some light at the end of the unemployment tunnel.

I think we would be a ot better off if the the reporters and the elected officials gave a fair and balanced discussion of the economy. More that that, I will not say in the general forum.
