Dave i think she has a point there. you did say shaws was closing stores and your response was because they didn't have viable business plan however when wally world does it - you say it was a smart decision

You flip flop more than john kerry no question discount stores will do better in a declining economy because people spend less

Dave my post was to remind you that ALL businesses including your Wal-Mart have to and do make business decisions based on the current sales/economy . You posted that Shaw's closed stores because they didn't have a good business model, and implied that Wal-Mart was the "be all and end all" for business practice, and proudly proclaimed them the "king of the jungle." Apparently, even Wal-Mart can't predict the future of business and has to close stores/make business decisions accordingly.

Let's face it, no matter what business we discuss, it's all about the money and the bottom line. Somehow I don't think Wal-mart closing the only store of it's kind within 30 miles was really thinking of it's employees and customers....

Talk about spin:

(Laurie Smalling, Walmart) "When looking at the Brinkley store, the decision was made on the customer demand and the location being a leased store and trying to figure out what is best for our customers and the company."
Is Walmart adding more stores per year, or reducing the total number of stores per year? Is Shaws adding more stores per year or reducing? I don't really know, but Shaws is a much smaller chain and I'm guessing the closing of six or more stores is significant.

I would guess that the walmart with 48 employees is a very, very, small walmart.

I'm sure it is. Perhaps Wal-Mart is still growing by leaps and bounds compared to other retailers like Sears (which announced store closings today), and grocery chains such as Shaw's, Stop & Shop, and grocery chains in other areas. Maybe Wal-Mart is/will be the king of the jungle, and their game will be the only one in town some day. That seems to be what they strive for, no matter who they step on to get there, or how many little guys they put out of business.

I'm just of the opinion that bigger is not always better. Just my opinion of course. You are all entitled to yours too.

As long as they keep saving me a bag of money each month, they can take over the world for all I care.

F'in right!

We did just about two weeks of groceries for a family of four yesterday including a huge box of huggies and like 5 gallons of milk. Total bill was right about $175. All name brand products.

Same list at Shaws/S&S would have been close if not over $300. Heck, the Huggies were $10 cheaper all by them selves.

Anyone who can afford NOT to shop at Walmart must be doing pretty well even in this tough economy.
