Typically you start with FASFA (sp). I paid the majority of my own expenses in college and neither of my parents earned 'extra' income until the last portion of my college due to a divorce. Unfortunately, while the divorce was working itself out it I was unable to get any money because combined they earned too much, which was horse$hit but a whole different story.

All the funds I got were through FASFA or my college (UT Austin). UT Austin offered me a couple 0% interest govt loans and I took one for 4k my sophmore year. I haven't been in that game for several years but as far as I know that is still the main process so start there.

The most important thing with FASFA and almost all scholarship type programs is apply EARLY as possible. You can be black from detroit with two dead parents and straight a's with a perfect SAT and if you wait too long you won't get squat [no racism intended, they get aid first, just a fact].

i work for financial aid at my college.

fill out a fafsa form. if your income is too high. u wont get jack in term of grant. however you can qualify for full amount in student loan.

if you're looking for free money. u wont get it from the gov. unless you sign up to take classes to get credentials to teach. other than that, look in private area for grants. theres plenty. write a good damn essay n get tons of scholarships.
