obviously this is a scenario if everything goes a certain way...but it's something to think about. necessity is the mother of invention and we're supposed to be the most technologically advanced nation in the world. with the proper incentives, we can cut demand and raise efficiency or come up with alternative energy. i'm sure 40mpg cars were unimaginable 30-40 years ago

That guy is living in a fantasy land. 45 nuclear power plants by mccain (due to be completed in 22 years...) or some tax credits by obama will be and are a drop in the bucket. 30$ will not be welcomed, it will be due to an entire global economic collapse. To believe that wind/solar/etc. will develop that quickly is completely unrealistic, we need to take advantage of these as quickly as possible so we have* energy in the future, not so we are completely off oil.

Note his disclaimer, short USO, long DUG. Well I'm long a couple oil service firms which is a hell of a lot less leveraged then that guy.

Impossible to know for sure but it's money adjusting to the news on the financials and FX issues. Financials under pressure without a weaker dollar is more negative on the stock market then with a weaker dollar because none of the energy firms get a boost, based on what I've seen recently.

FNM has slid quite a bit in past week but they have always been able to raise capital SO FAR.
What about this time?

The stocks are broken but the companies are not. Short term is very bearish for these names.

Not sure what you mean. My stuff is mostly flat for the day with the exception of WM. Steep drops in what?

I'm going to dip into some RIMM calls before the close.
