Managed to get a little lucky and called a fairly predictable short term bottom in the EEV at 89 (look at a bigger chart and you'll see), letting DZZ chug along.

Any buyers of CHK here? If not, price targets?

I'd like to build a position in the low 40s.

I'm hoping it touches 42 again AND oil is 95-105 (or 7.60-ish for nat gas). Then I'm a buyer. I've been making money in my friend's fantasy stock league by shorting CHK's every up-move (too scary for me to do for real). I can't believe how little the Russian move on Georgia affected it.

You are going to have to watch the FX markets if you want a relatively safe entry point. As long as the dollar continues to strengthen you will be buying on the way down in the medium term. I have hedged my oil positions with the DZZ (double short gold) and have no problem waiting for oil to get in the 90's. Because of the 'double' in DZZ, I'm positioned to gain from and expect the dollar to strengthen and have been for about a week and a half now.

If you look at the chart anything under 40 is more or less buying "oil under 100" previously. That's a safer area to buy. Obviously CHK is a big nat gas play but they are all trending the same so it's pointless to fret over it. I'd also be watching politics more then financial news, that's going to decide the future for a lot of these firms.

I am nibbling small amounts at energy stocks......but am still waiting to reload most of the money.

I like all energy facets...NG, oil, coal, alt. energy, services.

In nat gas my buddy likes XTO better because of its balance sheet but I just have to like CHK CEO's confidence ($43M insider buy!) and CHK seems able to raise big cash by selling off territory.

CHK and XTO are both good companies for the long haul. I own both of them.
