RIO is a good company!

I still think energy is the spot to look into and start buying here and into the fall.

Energy prices may be under pressure for the next year...possibly not....but after 2012......the oil market demand and supply just doesn't add up at all.

GM is going to be forced to file chapter 11 if something doesn't turn around.

I can't argue with your views on energy past about 2012. But I'm curious how many people on here are truly long term investors vs. how many are more short term oriented. There are so many young people on this forum that it could go either way.

Short term trading is tough..........so many things can ruin your trade.

I am a fundamental investor.....and honestly.....it takes positions longer than 1 yr to truely start to realize gains from the fundamentals. sometimes it takes less.....but why sell and make the broker and government rich?

stick with the strong companies and keep buying at GREAT prices.....and forget about worrying. diversify amongst the best companies......and keep going!

At least a third out of the several trades I do daily for my own accounts are establishing longer term positions or managing them. In this choppy/uncertain market you are doing yourself a disservice if you are doing otherwise unless you don't have the time/ability. The majority of the other ones are swing/range trades. I try to save the tedious scalping/day trading for work.

I'm patient enough to invest in fundamentals for my retirement but not for my loose money. I want gains in a year or less.

AZ, GM claims enough cash to not be at risk for a year. Hard to believe.

Cthree, with GM slumping below $10 again are you tempted? It sounded like you did great but the confluence of events and statements that drove the price up seem unlikely to repeat for a while.

i have been with CHK and DVN for a while now. sucks to see this $20-$30 pullback from a few weeks ago. These are the 2 biggest companies in Oklahoma and the 2 biggest producers of natural gas in the country. I dont think that will be changing. I will be buying as much as possible for the next couple years with these companies. If you are looking for another Oklahoma based energy company to invest in, look up Sandridge Energy(SD). The CEO of CHK and SD go way back in this industry and have gotten rich together, so it leads me to believe that both companies will succeed in the future. Both CEO'S are also on the ownership group for the Oklahoma City NBA team that we recently acquired. I am looking into POT as of right now seeing that it has fallen about $40 since I started watching it around the $220's. What is other people's take on POT right now.
