I've been a fan of FFIV for many years and right now, it is my largest single portfolio holding by far. After they announced earnings last night (earnings that showed strong growth, but apparently not fast enough for the street), the stock is down a baffling 20% plus in pre-market.

This is a great company with the dominant market position in a rapidly growing market with 0 debt (nevermind it being a perennial takeover target). This is a great entry point, IMHO.

MNKD also took a big hit today after afrezza was rejected by the FDA. This is one of my risky calls but the stock has consistently seen a support level of $5. I bought in at $5.20 today, holding it long.

I do a little of everything. In my 'retail' account I have all individual stocks (10-20 usually). In tax deferred accounts I have primarily index funds and a smaller allocation of fixed income securities (actual securities, not funds). Not a huge fan of mutual funds although I understand their purpose.

Anybody have any info or opinions on MCP? My Aunt's interested in them and asked me what I thought, so I'm curious as to what all of you, with your infinite wisdom, have to say.

its near its 1st support level. I would buy, depending on how risky you want to get. I think its a short term buy to make some $$ on the bounce back. same thing i did with MNKD.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but buying puts isn't the same as having a short position in the underlying.

I know that you know that, but some of the others here who are trying to learn might not know that.

Buying puts is equivalent to a having short position in the underlying, plus a long position in calls, plus a long position in a (risk-free) bond.

(I wouldn't feel too bad, though; you have some good company: the writers of Casino Royale (2006) made the same mistake, first referring to shorting 1,000,000 shares of stock, then later saying that the puts expired worthless.)
