So its almost 4/15 and I need to decide where I'm going to put my 5K.

I have my Roth IRA with Vanguard.

What I'm thinking is 1K into VEIEX and 4K into VFINX (I assume this is the only index fund they have that follows the S&P?)

I think I'm set on VEIEX, but is there anything better than VFINX that is Vanguard related?

Thanks!

The vix looks broken if it stays under 40 here.

Choosing both VEIEX and VFINX won't do much for diversification: for the last 13 years their correlation of monthly returns is 0.753, and 0.832 over the last 5 years; that's extremely high. Over that period VEIEX has returned 107.3% (5.55% annually) while VFINX has returned only 74.7% (4.22% annually); I'd be inclined to stick with the former.

What other choices do you have? If yougive me the ticker symbols I'll do some analysis for you.

Thanks for offering =)

The ones I have in mind are:

VFWSX
Vanguard Target Retirement 2045 (VTIVX) (I remember I asked this one to you a year or two ago and you said it wasn't well devirsified)
Vanguard Total Stock Mkt Idx (VTSMX) (This looks like a safe bet)
Vanguard Total Intl Stock Index (VGTSX) (Ehh...)
Vanguard Energy (VGENX) (Scared I might be to heavy-weight in energy in the retirement portfolio).

If this takes up too much of your time, I would greatly appreciate your analysis on just VTSMX and a fund you would recommend from your portfolio (if you don't mind sharing).

Thank you from your neighbor along the 57 freeway lol.

Any thoughts on a earthday play? FSLR or STP?

The bulls must be trying to work back in or I'm planning another trip to vegas and need some fun money.

I don't think anyone got it perfect but a lot of people knew to some extent what was happening. I have plenty of posts you can sort through going way back to shorting CFC. However, I tried to pick a bottom a while back when BAC was around 15 and sold when it hit 9.90 for a pretty heft loss. Fortunately that taught me a valuable lesson and at that point I retained my gains from shorting the financials and looked elsewhere for opportunities. Most of my holdings like YUM/ETP/LINE/AAPL I've had since near the start of the crisis and by buying some short term bottoms I'm up significantly in all of them. Did not predict the catastrophic collapse in commodities though. For those that were way too leveraged in that sector (MANY people) they were obliterated.
