I don't expect this rally to last past today...I'm actually surprised its lasted this long... especially with the VIX above 60 still...

It sure was nice to have a solid up day. We've been beat down too much.
Dow 8400? Told you so (not my idea but he sure was right)
Dow 10K? Sure hope so!

I believe Oct is going to have some nice rallies. Sept and early Oct, we just got way too many sell off days.

Futures are up and slowly gaining momentum. If we open up significantly, say 300-400, we will either get our 1,000 point rally or the forced selling will rear its ugly head at an alarming rate. Should be a good trading day regardless, pretty pumped up.
Didn't expect it.. you should have.

i wish i had the balls to buy and sell in big chunks like that, sahtt. these giant up and down days could be extremely profitable for savvy day traders. though i imagine if you're caught on the wrong end, that could spell disaster but my bag holder's portfolio is pretty disastrous anyway.

i've been buying some blue chips/dividend payers. picked up ge and krft yesterday. looking for jnj, pg, cl, clx. i imagine i'll have a few months to save up the cash for these, so i'm in no rush.

i should have went with my gut and dumped some money into apwr last week. nearly $1b in backorders, yet they were taken down to $200m market cap last week. though the question is whether they are exposed to any short/medium term borrowing issues due to the ongoing financial mess. either way, i like them long term so i may consider picking up a small holding for the long term.
I rarely trade like that in my LT account.

My actual day trades at work are usually 2-3 seconds in duration and have nothing to do with guessing where a stock is going, which is almost impossible over the short term.

Exceptions are when there is massive support in one direction. For instance, I got a couple points out of DIG near the end of the day just holding it for a couple minutes.

What do you guys think of GM's stock? Relatively cheap and I don't think they are going anywhere...

If you think GM will recover buy some for a little gambling pick.

BTW futures are up 166point!

Go Bulls!

Rumor on the street is that GM approached both Ford and Chrysler on separate occasions regarding possible mergers. Given the current state of the stock market, there are better opportunities out there with much less risk. Unless you're a gambling man..

There were people here buying at 10$ with your same logic. Remember, you can always* divide the stock price by two and end up in the same boat. Always. Ford was at 1.99 two trading days ago. From 5$ that's a longgg drop.
