Yea i was thinking about getting into GM in the $8.00 range since i thought that when the Volt was produced it would drive the shares up a little if only for a short time. I'm glad i decided to pass.

I love how GS downgraded the entire solar sector due to "oversupply concerns" - While it is true Spain reduced 2009 solar subsidies to 500MW from 1.2GW currently, USA just passed a gigantic 8-year solar investment tax credit extension. Considering we are the largest energy consumer in the world, I think the pent-up demand in US will outweigh whatever cut backs Germany or Spain. Plus, all the big PV solar companies KNOW there will be oversupply in 2009-2010. That's why they've been working on reducing silicon prices to get their panels cheaper and more cost effective. GS's argument only works if there is oversupply, no cost efficiencies are realized, and demand stalls. All 3 of those aren't going to happen.
Did anybody else read about the solar town/community development in Kunming, China? China is very serious about developing and implementing renewable energy and is putting $2.6B to develop a town which will consist of over 50% solar penetration. Solar renewable energy is here to stay; the concern I have is which technology will grab hold of the industry. If STP/YGE can reduce polysilicon prices to be competitive with thin film, then I don't see the point of thin film. Conversion rates are higher with PVs and the only saving grace of thin film is the cheaper production process.

Get your money short. I've had 40-70% moves on my short ETFs this week. Leveraged obviously, but I've been selling more and more and buying more short ETFs every day.

I think the biggest factor was that the financial sector had its pegleg pulled out from under it. The short sale ban expired at midnight last night and anyone looking to make some money should have jumped on that train this morning. Tons of pent up demand for shorts after a 2 week ban. This was a ridiculous proposal by CEOs looking to buy some time to prop up their shareholders while they dump their stock. Too bad the SEC is in bed with them.
