What do you guys think about PPC? Pilgrim's Pride Chicken...

The high on the year is $34 and the low was $2.10. They are way in the red mainly because gas prices and feed prices. The whole ethanol scam should be winding down and grain prices returning to normal. Rumblings of oil dropping. People have to eat even during a depression.

The chicken business has always been highly cyclical...that's basically how PPC acquired Gold Kist. They waited until the bottom of a cycle when Gold Kist was undervalued and bought them out in a hostile take over. PPC has the infrastructure to supply 25% of the chicken to North America and that's got to be worth more than $3 to $4 a share considering it use to trade at $30+ There are also rumblings that Sanderson Farms is looking to make acquisitions as they have loads of money...PPC has got to be looking mighty tasty to them right now. More talk of acquisition should drive the stock up quickly or the gradual drop in grain prices after ethanol stops hogging it will bring the profit back. Plus chicken producers are agreeing to limit production to drive the prices back up.

What do you guys think?

I love how GS downgraded the entire solar sector due to "oversupply concerns" - While it is true Spain reduced 2009 solar subsidies to 500MW from 1.2GW currently, USA just passed a gigantic 8-year solar investment tax credit extension. Considering we are the largest energy consumer in the world, I think the pent-up demand in US will outweigh whatever cut backs Germany or Spain. Plus, all the big PV solar companies KNOW there will be oversupply in 2009-2010. That's why they've been working on reducing silicon prices to get their panels cheaper and more cost effective. GS's argument only works if there is oversupply, no cost efficiencies are realized, and demand stalls. All 3 of those aren't going to happen.

Did anybody else read about the solar town/community development in Kunming, China? China is very serious about developing and implementing renewable energy and is putting $2.6B to develop a town which will consist of over 50% solar penetration. Solar renewable energy is here to stay; the concern I have is which technology will grab hold of the industry. If STP/YGE can reduce polysilicon prices to be competitive with thin film, then I don't see the point of thin film. Conversion rates are higher with PVs and the only saving grace of thin film is the cheaper production process.
