this was posted in other sections. I think this was way too extreme. he paid a ton of interest alrdy and right when he is breaking into his principal he paid it off quickly by taking extreme measures. To me there are certain things more important than just money. Missing close friends & family weddings isn't acceptable to me IMO.

Funny cause he lives free now. In debt to no one, has his degree and has learned what really matters to him. I think this story is a prime example of how extreme our way of living has become state side.

Great story. The wife and I are currently doing sort of the same thing. We started 3 years ago when she became pregnant with our son. Our goal was to be 100% debt free and have 100,000 in our retirement before he was 5 years old. We started 200,000+ in debt with no retirement savings. Now have 50+k in our retirement and are only 50k away from paying off the house, our final debt. Our son turns 3 in a couple of months so we're gonna beat our goal pretty easily. We did this on a mechanic's and registered nurse's salaries. Required some real lifestyle cuts, but one of the best things i've ever done. Looking forward to being debt free before i'm 35 and retiring as a millionaire. To hell with the credit score and buying crap you can't afford. My son will never here us fight over money, which is something I watched my parents do for years. Debt destroyed there marriage. Won't be a factor in mine.

I'm in a pretty bleak looking financial situation myself and will likely be so for the next several years due to my lack of income while pursuing a higher education.
It is good to know, however, that keeping the S2000, my only car, is still an option
