S2000, Potenza S02's, Snow...
Last night I decided I needed to head to Oklahoma to take care of a few things...
So I uncovered the S and hit the road really early this AM. I had heard that we were suppose to have the possibility of a light dusting of snow, but nothing more than a dusting w/ a total fall of maybe 1"... I figured I would be fine in the S, especially since the maps were showing little to no activity farther south.
YEAH RIGHT!!!
About halfway to Emporia the roads were covered w/ in a matter of minutes and the S became the most useless vehicle I have ever driven in any weather. I continued on only to turn around about 40 miles outside of Wichita. They were reporting up to 5 inches out that way and the last thing I wanted to get caught in was that. Especially w/ needing to be back on Monday for work.
I never thought the reports on here about snow driving the S w/ S02's could be that bad, but i have to admit defeat.
No more snow for the S.

I played with them a bit while doing my errands around town and can say they are at least 200% better in the snow than my Kuhmo 712s! They will still break loose, but I honestly felt like I was driving on nearly dry pavement with them. The back end feels a bit loose, but I believe that has something to do with going down to a 195mm wide tire (from 205mm stock). Since I've lost over 3/4" of rubber, it makes sense.
I put the car into a snow bank after sliding down a hill on some High Performance Summer tires (aka low performance winter tires!) during out last snow. Since my commute has gone from about 2 miles to 20, I bucked up for a set. I figure that it cost about what my insurance deductible is, and its a hell of a lot more convenient than wrecking the car!
Cliff notes: Get a set of Blizzaks, be surefooted, and don't bend your car this winter.

Well I hadn't intended to drive the S in snow ever, but when they said a "dusting" I figured what the hell. I didn't feel like taking my DD Explorer that get's 13mpg and takes 17g to fill. Although for the cost of gas on a trip like that at 13mpg, I might be able to afford Blizzaks.
