Default Which tires?

My S came with the Bridgestone Potenza RE050.

Now after the accident I'm having to replace both of my rear tires 245/40 R17. After a long search I couldn't find the Bridgestones anywhere neither in Abu Dhabi nor Dubai.

I've read reviews at Tire Rack and found out that the top tires are the RE050A and the PS2.

Michelin promised to get me the PS2 by next week, hopefully before the track evening for 890 AED. Bridgestone couldn't promise a delivery date yet but the price will be at 755 AED.

I have a friend who installed the PS2 on his Cayman S and managed to get a 0-100 time of 5.1 secs (measured with a performance box). The best time he got on his old OE bridgestone was 5.6 secs. He also said that now he gets better lap times on the track. He recommends the PS2 for our roads.

Any one has any experience with these tires or has any advice to give?

Porsche's official claim for the Cayman S is 5.4 secs. It is only tests in the US that always have lower times than the manufacturer claims and I don't know why.

One test (I think Road & Track) even claimed that the 0-100 sprint of the Cayman S was quicker that the Z4M!

Another claimed that the Golf GTi has an under 6 secs!!

Just got a call from Bridgestone and they have no tires and will not be arriving for another 2-3 months!

So you got fronts and rears in PS2, instead of only rears in RE050?

One reason could be that in the US they measure 0-60mph (0 - ~94kph).

My fronts are ok which came with the car RE050 only the rear ones I need. By the way Bridgestone now have the RE050A which supposedly are superior to the RE050.

Actually 60mph are 96.6 kmh. But the difference shouldn't be that great, may be 0.1 - 0.3 secs depending on acceleration.

Having different tire types front / rear is something I would not do. If your rear tires have more grip (higher coefficient of traction) than your fronts, then your car will push. If your new rear tires have less grip your car will be loose. Imho you should be a bit cautious until you figure it out, especially if you are taking it to the track.

My car has the RE050A as a street tire, so I am somewhat familiar with these...

You are correct on the 60mph = 96.6 kmh, however, the time differential is higher than you would think. The rate of acceleration gets exponentially slower as the speed increases. E.g. AW test of Audi RS4, same day, same track, same weather, same driver;
0-60 mph: 4.9 sec
0-100 km/h: 5.2 sec

Now R&T might get a 4.8 sec or 4.7 sec 0-60 time for the same car, but thats then a different track, temperature, humidity, driver etc. compared to the AW time, so no longer apples to apples.
