Importation Help for my dream car...
I knew you'd all look at this post and its not happening immediately but I am on the hunt for a Acura (Honda) NSX sometime this year. My plan is to export one from the U.S. if I can find what I'm looking for...
Question though, perhaps Superbabe can answer this one, what's the procedure and costs involved importing a car into the UAE? Umair has already stated that its only 5% of the purchase price?!?!
Any help would be good and any information appreciated. I'm not worried about maintenance etc. as it will be mostly a collector car for me and driven very little as I have my S. The plan is to keep the car as I've wanted one for 16 years ever since I had the NSX poster on my wall (Welcome to the New World).
I can even remember the morning I awoke and opened the newspaper to find this poster of an NSX in all its glory! I knew I'd have to own one and I've lusted for one ever since.

The only thing i would suggest:
1 - Make sure you get your friend involve from where ever you purchasing the car, so he can sort of take out stuff which can easily be removed by ******* in the port or ship (Antena, headunit cover, shift knob, cig lighter, ashtray, etc.) Have seen lot of cases with missing parts.
2 - Get two keys, one key to be sent to you directly by your mate to you via courier, second key comes with the car which gets lost in most of the cases!
3 - Install bumper gaurds, those horrible looking stick ons, your friend should do it, otherwise be prepared to do a paint job when it gets here, most cases this happens.
4 - Tell your mate to install cheap seat covers, sometime people sleep in the car at the port or ship.
5 - Get it in a 20 feet container not LCL and get proper lashing done, some people get used garments, or tires stuffed on the sides. Dont save on that.
All of the above completely depends which shipping line you are planning to use. Handling should be good.
