Engine oil in Middle East/hot climates
I did a quick search on the internet to find out which type of engine oil is best for hot climates and below is what I found:
Here's a three-line table to give you an idea where typical engine oils are used:
Oil type Typically used in....
-5W-30 Cooler climates, like Sweden or Canada
-10W-40 Temperate climates, like England
-15W-50 Hot climates, like Italy, Spain, Egypt

Who should use a synthetic oil? The premium-priced oil is best for:
-Turbocharged or supercharged engines
-Performance or high output engines
-Vehicles used for towing (especially during hot weather)
-Vehicles that are operated in extremely cold or hot climates
-Anyone who wants the ultimate in lubrication and protection

Based on the information from the above sources, for hot climates synthetic oil is recommended over dino oil. Moreover when I tried to find the grade recommended in the S2000 user manual (10W30), I couldn't find it here in Oman. The closest I found was 10W40. I ended up buying Shell Helix Ultra 15W50.
Please let me know if anyone else info on this question.

Gaja, thanks, that is great. I tried to find out from the Honda dealership, but I could not get the competent person on the phone. Plus I think they just use the same stuff that they use for all other Honda models. Today I stopped by a lube shop and all they had was 10W40 Shell oil, so I guess that is a commonly used type of engine oil here in Oman.
Anyway, if your place uses 20W50, then the 15W50 should be okay as well.

So what is the ideal synthetic oil to use in very hot weather and for working an engine hard in hot weather?

The first thing I did when I picked up the S2000 was switch from stock oil to Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil.
1. I knew Synthetics are better for warmer climates and overall engine reliability and,
2. Umair said so - LOL
