Default Car Diagnostic (CEL)

Hi,

Does anyone have an idea where to get a through car diagnostic test done? My 2006 S2k's CEL (Check Engine Light) lit up just after a service from Honda (Change oil, differential oil change, etc).

I brought the car back to Honda a day after to get it checked. The Honda guys seem to be perplexed as to what caused the CEL to light up. They said they ran the car in their diagnostic tool and error codes turn out to be something related to the battery. There's no problem with the battery at all so they assumed that it's just a random ECU error. They reset the computer after that to get rid of the CEL, but it turned back on again after just 200kms of driving. I'm very apprehensive to bring it back to Honda again.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi

Do a search on this site for CEL reading, and you will find a thread telling you how to bridge the diagnostic port so you can read them yourself.

Either that or try to get honda to read it again, and then post the reading in the "engine" forum. I am sure someone else will have had the same before.

Thanks for the tip bro.

I was on my way to work this morning when the CEL light switched off by itself after a refueling session. This is really weird. I've read on some forums that ECU's sometimes adjust to changes made to a car. Is there any truth to this? Moreover, I haven't done any modification to the car at all apart from the recent maintenance service.

the Ecu adjusts to the way you drive IIRC - but thats all I know.

I would pull the ecu fuse (and check it) for 10 minutes, and then plug back in. If it comes on again then at least you know its thrown for that reason and get straight to Honda for a reading.

Not sure if it could be a dodgy earth or loose connection somewhere????

It didn't light up again. I just drove the car 160kms with not a single hitch. It could just be a rogue ecu error (fingers crossed), and I hope it stays that way.

Thanks for the input bro. I forgot to update the out come of my problem. It turned out that the TPS (Throttle Pedal Sensor) was the culprit. Since the TPS sensor is attached to a part of the throttle body, Honda said they had to replace the whole thing.
