winters in northern VA?
Hi, Im new to the area (and my S2K) and was wondering if winters get bad enough in northern VA (Dahlgren to be exact) to need snow tires for the S or if all seasons will cut it.
thanks,
Will.

i asked the same and everyone told me to just go with all seasons.
never had a problem with good all-seasons (Pirelli Pzero Nero M+S or Bridgestone RE960AS)

this will be my 3rd winter with my S2000, and i have always kept the OEM RE050s on throughout the entire year. it snowed probably twice last year, and both times, the roads were generally clear and/or the snow was melted within 6-12 hours.
i've found that even if the temp drops to 30-40 degrees, so long as there isn't any snow or slush, the RE050s do just fine if you are gentle on the throttle and don't make any fast inputs (floor it through a turn, slam on the brakes, etc). i do drive more like a grandma when it gets below 40 degrees.
that said, one time i had to drive through the PA mountains to go to my folks' place in upstate new york, and it started snowing very hard. i had to follow tracks and go 40-45mph for at least an hour until i could get out of the mountains. all-seasons will give you more confidence in situations like that and perform better, but for 99% of the time, i don't think they're necessary if you drive very carefully in inclement weather from november - february.

i've been using extreme performance summer tires all year round for the past 3 years. just be smart and have a rudimentary understanding of the physics of your car and you'll be fine.
