Where are the twisties around here?
Anybody know of some good twisty roads that are fun, relatively lightly travelled, and reasonably close to DC (30-45 mins)? I stumbled across one earlier this week, Rt 218 between Fredericksburg and Dahlgren. There was more traffic than I liked, but it definitely had some fun sections. Then earlier today I went down to Rt 619 W, right off of I95 a little south of Dale City. Someone recommended 619 to me, but I was a little disappointed. The road has potential, but to be really fun you'd have to drive at really unsafe speeds...like 75+ mph. The surface is very uneven, and there are several "hills" that you can get really light going over. On several occasions, those hills are swiftly followed by turns....that's no good. I don't recommend 619 for spirited driving.
Anyone got any secret playgrounds they'd be willing to share?
Disclaimer: I'm generally a complete chicken when it comes to fast driving. I am always very conscious of what could be hiding around that blind corner, so I never push it unless I know what's there. So please don't bother yelling at me to take it to the track...I'll do that too. I'm not looking for any insane, tail-out adventures...just some quick corners and maybe a bit of tire squeal.

Not much right around DC, too much traffic, and or enforcement.
The roads though Rock Creek park are nice for top down cruising though.
The backroads in MD around Frederick are pretty good and not too far away.
IMO, you need to head about 60 minutes North and or West to get to the
good stuff. .
Here are some routes you can check out

Since youre in Alexandria, you might want to try Popes Head off the Parkway. This definitely has some of those hills that are followed by a turn. Make sure you hit both sides of Popes Head, as the Parkway intersects it.
Another one I tried was Joplin Rd. It's near the Quantico cemetary. Beware of cops on this road though. I would like this road alot more if I wasnt so paranoid of cops waiting around the corner.

Off the top of my head, the few fun roads I like to go on are:
1) Georgetown pike towards Great Falls. I get on it from 123 which is pretty much where it starts and take it all the way down to Rt. 7 where it ends. I usually do this at least 4-5 times a week... You have to keep the whole traffic thing in mind though. If you're behind some slow cars, you won't enjoy it.
2) This one is kind of short, but the turns are really fun...Get on to Kirby Rd from 123. The twisty part starts after a short downhill length of straight road. You'll know right when the fun part ends.
3) Bellview Rd. off of Old Dominion Drive heading towards Great Falls Park. Make a left onto Bellview. I haven't been on this in a long time, and haven't gone on it with my S2K so I don't remember exactly how it is. I just remember that I used to take it when driving for fun.
4) Beulah Rd. off of Rt 7. After taking Georgetown Pike all the way down to Rt 7, make a left on rt. 7. Keep going...you'll pass a few lights (3 i think, but not sure) and the next light is Beulah Rd. Make a right onto it and go down. There are a few nice and fun parts. Be careful on some of the straight lengths of the road. The speed limit is 25 cuz its mainly a residential area, and I've heard that cops like to hang out around these areas.
These are all that I can think of right now... I'll post more if I remember any...

If you go when theres less traffic its pretty fun, I also rip it up on my motorcycle.
