VA owners - tax assessments???
so i got my personal property tax bill from albemarle county in the mail today. now, my real estate assessment went up 30% back in december, which i can understand with the market around here......but why would the assessment on my S2000 go up? my accord went down, just like it has for the past 4 years i have lived here. did this happen to anyone else? i am going to call tomorrow, but a brief look at the county's website says they go by NADA value. last year it was 21030, this year it is 23700....that equates to a difference of $114 for the year in albemarle taxes. we pay twice yearly, by the way...in june and december. this makes me

this is 90% of the reason for me moving to West Va.... i can deal with the tax on the S2k, barely... but i am finally taking delivery of my 360 in late july or august, and it will run me over 5k a year to park my car in my garage!
not sure how much i will really be driving it, but let's say for 2000 miles, that means it will be $2.50 a mile to the state! plus i am still paying s2k taxes. since the big no car tax push only cover the 1st 20k of value, and they are holding at 70% reduction right now until they figure out what else they can tax to make up for the loss of the car tax, i figure i may as well get out of here.
besides, houses are cheaper in WV and Summit Point will only be a few miles away.

i just called the county finance office, and it turns out that my assessment for 2002 was wrong...should have been 25100 instead of 21030. for some reason, the assessment on the S2000 isn't automated, so whoever entered it screwed up. apparently they got it right for this tax year. at least they aren't going to make me pay back taxes.
