Default Timing Chain Tensioner problem:

I am having what is almost certainly a timing chain tensioner (TCT) problem. The signature noise just beams through the tensioner when I put a screwdriver to it. Here

To change the timing chain tensioner takes like 10 minutes, if that.

I personally would change it myself.

I tried taking mine to Tyson's honda and they said the exact same thing. I actually found a tech at honda that had installed one before and helped me out . I personally would do it myself. Its extremely easy to install. There is a DIY on here as well.

Changing it out should be no problem mechanically.

I was a little surprised that Brown's essentially punted--I don't think they want to touch it unless they could have at least 3 hours of labor to dig around. Couldn't they find out from other dealers or American Honda what this issue is all about? To their credit, they are not going to charge for the time spent anyway.

Once someone pointed me to the tensioner instead of the valves, diagnosis was easy. It really highlights the strength of sites like this.

Word of advice. Make sure both screws that hold the tensioner are in place BEFORE you pull the pin. Dont ask me how I know....
