Default Summit Point - Pointers Needed

After being jerked around for over a month they finally let me into the Dec 5th FATT at Summit Point.

I have never been there and would appreciate any pointers from someone who has been there.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. This thread is a duplicate of one in the Racing and Competition forum

Avoid TURN 3!!! Well, obviously, don't avoid it , but *do* R-E-S-P-E-C-T it anyway! It has a nasty habit of eating very nice cars! Its problem, if you over-shoot the camber in the turn, is that over the crown it drops down again...and with our light rear ends, that means your car is an IMMEDIATE candidate for spin-out. With a not-so-distant tire wall nearby, Turn 3 can do some pretty hefty damage ...

Here is a thread/link from these pics above

Still, even with these pics, I think all could agree that it would be better (i.e. SAFER) to test your car's limits on a TRACK...rather than the public roads.

I did a link for updating folks on Summit Point dates (didn't keep up with it well :shameonCO: ). But click it anyway as there are some additional links/pointers related to tracking cars in general that may be of interest to you...

Dave don't be giving the man a complex before he gets there.

Turn 3 is not that bad, it's my 2nd favorite turn.

Just be really Smooth and don't lift in the corner (any corner really) , take a late apex and let the car track out over the dragons teeth on the right side.

And watch out for 500HP supercharged Z06's infront of you spitting up rocks (I have some nice paint chips on my hood now)

George

Jeez, Dave....Just posting pictures of wrecked cars (that was my S2000) doesn't do anybody good, especially coming from someone who's been on a race track one time and frankly does not have the experience from which to draw his conclusions.

The truth is that wrecking cars at a race track is a fact of life. For every picture you throw up of a wreck at Summit's T3 I can probably track one down of T1-2 and T4-10 or wrecks from VIR/RA/Laguna/etc.

What you showed cashout are the results of two experienced drivers w/ much Summit experience pushing their cars heavily. The fact of the matter that there is a VERY low crash/accident rate for FATT "Group 1" students. Why is that? Because the instructors don't let an inexperienced driver over-extend him/herself and more importantly, the instructor in-car values his life above all else (incl. the driver).

That being said, because a FATT or HPDE is not a timed event and you will have an instructor in the car with you, if you do do damage to your vehicle it is in your best interest to be truthful with your insurance company as they will in most cases cover your damage (at least once). It should be noted that I was compensated by my insurance company for the S2000 you see above.

Thank you Gregg. I respect you post and your experience more than you know. And for the record, I have yet to put foot or rubber on Summit Point.

Again, your sentiments are much more appropriate than those pics. Thanks for your input.

Gregg and Dave, I have been to the track (CMP and RR) a few times and was not 'scared straight' when I saw the pictures.

I understand the risks and that when you push your car you gonna end up findind the limit sooner or later. That is how I spun at CMP at 100MPH... (for video check one of my track threads in the carolinas forum).

Both your input is appreciated.
