Street Racers Busted
As some of you may know, I am now a Moderator on DragVa Forums. This morning I get an instant message letting me know that WavyTV 10 is trying to get into the DragVa Forums. Trying to figure out what for, I started searching through our website as well as theirs and found THIS.
STREET RACERS BUSTED
"More than a dozen police cruiser lights lit up I-564 Friday night as State and Norfolk Police closed in a group of street racers near the Naval base.
Police say young drivers in fast cars had turned I-564 into their motor speedway. Police caught nine high speed street racers in a rolling road block. The drivers stand to loose both their licenses and their cars.
Police have been monitoring the racing for several weeks, clocking drivers traveling in excess of 150 miles per hour, so fast, they couldn't even catch them.
"As soon as they'd come three the terminal, a couple of the cars would slow down and hold traffic back and the other four or five whoever was racing at the time would line up and beep the horn and that was the go signal and they would take off," said State police 1st Sgt. Chris Hawkins.
Drivers caught in the roadblock were charged with organized racing on a public highway. Police confiscated their cars and their passengers were charged with aiding and abetting an organized race.
State police say this parking lot off Little Creek Road served as the spot to congregate. Police charged 17 more drivers here for having illegal equipment on their cars.
Police say they'd rather have to call a parent to pick a child up than have to call a parent to tell them something much worse. "It doesn't take much when you're running side by side with a car and loose control. If you do, especially with the small cars it would just totally demolish those cars and the people in them is not much chance of survival at that speed," Hawkins said.
It will be up to a judge to determine if those involved will loose their cars for good. "
During the 2005 summer a lot of you may remember that I spent most Fri/Sat nights Street Racing and testing out my supercharger versus V8's in this area. Well the location we used was 564 - it was a rather well known location several years ago that was broken up. During the 2005 summer a few friends decided to revive it and its been used since.
In August once I started having axle problems I pulled the car down for the winter and stopped going - apparently several others still visited this place during the winter. They continued to race there every Fri/Sat night, regardless of people telling them it will be broken up soon.
Well, last night the police finally broke it up. Speaking with individuals who were caught I was informed that the police had been planning this raid for some time. The police were down the interestate facing towards the group - once they saw the first batch slow down to race, they cut on their lights and charged at the cars head on. As well, they had undercover police officers in camo on the side of the interstate, in the bushes.

Sorry if somone's car got taken by the police, but as the french would say, (right before they surrender!) "La Tough". Life is about making choices, and if you're drag racing on the street, you've made a bad one. Consequences always follow choices...sometimes good, sometimes bad. Guess those were some of the bad.
