static cling rear tint.. and all tint
First off,.. where do you guys get your cars tinted out down here?
Second.. i used 2 rolls of static cling before i got the back window perfect, then when it rained tonight, it flew off while i was driving down the road. Is this a common occurence? I dont understand how to tint the outside of a window and have it last. Any pointers?

1. Use vinyl static tint (if you get the right type...I purchased my roll from AutoZone...it should be like 20"x6' or something -- but it was enough to do 2 S2000s rear windows),
2. First make a template with newspaper or foil, then cut the tint dry against the template.
3. Spray a soapy solution to your already cleaned rear window
4. Lay your cut piece of vinyl static cling to wet, soapy-sprayed surface of rear window
5. Work out bubbles by pressing from center to edges firmly with a squeegie.
6. Trim (delicately) with an exacto knife as needed. [Feel free to read the \"delicately\" part again ...exacto knife and plastic window are NOT very compatible...but are necessary, so take your time].

I got it done again.... I had it done the same way as you said, it worked well. Its just that when i was driving down the highway... it flew off. I guess i just had bad luck and it rained right after and water most have gotten under the tint. HOpefully when its completly dry it wont ever do it again
I used the Autozone tint too, now i jsut gotta go have my fronts tinted. I dont like doing them myslef ebcuase the tint places can take the tint all the way to the edges.

"" dunno what would be different. Mine sticks like glue ... But then again, I *am* trimmed right to the edge of the window. As such, the vinyl is actually protected [i.e. tucked under] the ragtop trim around the rear window. So there is little-to-no opportunity for air to catch a corner, side, etc. of the tint and yank it off while driving down the road. Then again ...my top is seldom up ...

Sides are done with a non-vinyl film. Very thin mil tint that is applied the same way, but does not offer the same flexibility that the vinyl offers. But *does* offer better clarity/visibility since it is not "thick" like vinyl film. Dunno how to describe the stuff...its just different. But it *is* applied in the very same fashion. However, I'd suspect it would take a razor blade to scrape it off the glass side windows. I'm blessed with a "doctor's note" [prescription] that says my eyes are sensitive to sunlight and I need all my windows tinted (yeah ...its a convertible...so what! )...
