SoVA peeps that are interested in tracking (road course)
A guy on the ISF forums that I read posted up about this track: http://nccar.us/
Apparently it has somewhat limited access and not that many events per year, but it is near Roanoke Rapids which is a heck of a lot closer to SoVA than VIR. Now, I don't mean to suggest this is better, as VIR is one of the premier tracks on the East Coast, but it certainly is a better option for travelling purposes. I plan on checking it out next season. Has anyone else tried it out?

I've heard of it. They do run events far less frequently than NASA, SCCA, etc. I also believe that they don't require a rollbar for the s2k if I'm not mistaken. It looks like a very nice facility but I don't know any other info about it.

I had a chance to run there a couple time this summer but didn't, for whatever reason. A local club called Grip Syndicate does events called "Grip Fest" there a couple times a year. Everyone that goes seems to be impressed with the facility and the seat time for the dollar. Look them up.

This one has been floating around for years and I haven't heard any updates for quite some time, but wouldn't this one be nice?

Hey Kevin,
My Buddy went to the 'Gripfest' event at that track the past two years, was Oct. 27. paid $150 for a minimum of 10 laps, he was able to get 14. It all depends on the number of cars that show up and how fast they run around the track to determine if you get more laps. Need a helmet..tech check..no ride alongs IIRC. That particular event has a 60 car cap. That's the only event there that I know of someone personally that's attended. A lot of locals caravaned there.

Way too much red tape though, you build a track in the middle of nowhere and you'll still get people complaining about the noise.

Been there once.
The track is one long straight (1/2 mile) followed by 10 continuous turns (or a 1.5 mile skidpad) and no noticeable elevation change. It is fun, but it is not a road course. Great place to learn the limits, throttle control, slip angles, etc. Also very good for making adjustments / dialing-in your setup (for those with adjustable suspensions).
Beginners will most likely destroy at least one set of tires in one dry day. All others should bring an extra set. In the cold and/or wet, tire wear is not an issue.
