SOMD Small Group Top Replacement - New Poll
Ladies and Gents:
This discussion has been moved to a new topic:
Soft Top Group Buy and/or Install Mini-Event
I was about to head toward soft top replacement, finding supplier (probably TopsOnline.com) and arrange with someone with good top replacement experience to make the process smooth and likely take half the time as me going it alone.
Then I thought, maybe a few others in SOMD might be headed in the same direction sometime in the near future. There might be economies of scale if a handful of us are buying tops and getting service as a group … anyone interested? If you’re interested, approximately when? January 3, plus or minus a week? March 28, plus or minus a week? Sometime in between?
Suggested location?
If a few of us are in the same place for the same day, any particular activity suggestion to coincide with the top replacement? Or we all could be prepared to do some of the work with coaching. (Tools?)
If you’re an experienced installer, and would like to work on a few soft top replacements during the same weekend in southern Maryland, please feel free to post in this thread too.
I’ll watch the progress in this topic for a week or two. If there’s practically no genuine small group interest, I’ll just go ahead.

Toyo (Tphong) lives in NC and has done very many soft top replacements. I don't know of anyone other than yourself who would be interested in replacing their top, but Toyo is capable and has reasonable pricing.
You can work out details with him, or maybe even try to find another group in VA that would want top replacements, then contact Toyo about arranging a meet up spot and time.
I hope this helps. My top was brand new when I bought my car over two years ago so it has only seen some minor wear (more than I would've liked though haha)

How many replacements would make the trip worthwhile for you? Are there things each owner might do to help things move along better at the time? Pull seats after arrival?
I believe you prefer the Robbins top(s) to the EZ. Other having the new tops in hand, and replacements for straps that have relaxed too much (perhaps these? https://www.modifry....s/ctf/index.htm ), just 'cash in hand'?
Thanks.

I'll check in from time to time, or we can communicate via PM or text, however you prefer. I can make most any dates work as long as i have advanced notice to plan things out. I would need a minimum 3 tops, but can accomodate as many as 5-6 in a 2 day weekend with some sleep mixed in somewhere. If interest grows I can accomodate more, I would just need to plan ahead for a 3 day trip.
As fas as lending a hand, I am quite particular and prefer to do all work on my own, as I'm a bit of a perfectionist and need to be sure that everything is done correctly and that every nut and bolt is accounted for when putting it all back together.
As far as tops go, i much prefer the Robbins over the EZ On. The name is quite deceiving and is anything but easy when it comes to installing, at least they were when i had installed a few a couple of years back. The Robbins top in either cloth or vinyl will make any owner as happy as if it were an OEM top. Their customer service is pretty great too.
As far as materials for your group to purchase, just the top from www.topsonline.com. New straps are included wtih the top so no need to get the modifry ones, unless you want spares in the future.
If you have any questions, please shoot me an email, text, or PM.
Thanks
