Skyline drive/Shenandoah Valley weekend
Hi guys,
I'm from Pennsylvania, and I'm planning a long weekend to Shenandoah Valley National Park. I want to catch the Skyline Drive and take that as much as possible during our trip to the Park.
So where exactly does it start? I guess I'll be taking 95S from Philadelphia. From 95 do I catch 66 or 340??? I assume once we're on the Skyline Drive, we'll be able to cut off and get to our lodge (either Big Meadows or Skyland). I'll be going to AAA late today for maps, but I figured this forum is a good place to start.
Any hints, tips, suggestions for our weekend trip?
Thanks in advance for any help

Take 66 West to Front Royal, there are signs for Skyline drive (that's where it starts)
If you want hit up a fun road (watch out for cops though) get off at Thornton Gap and make a few passed up and over the mountain on 211.
It's heavily patrolled however so keep that in mind.

Take 95S then get off on 495W toward Silver Springs MD.
Take exit 49 to 66W towards Front Royal VA.
Take Exit 13 to Linden.
Make a left at the stop sign and proceed to the traffic signal.
Make a right onto route 55W at the signal.
Approx 4 miles on 55W you will enter Front Royal VA.
Continue on 55W until it ends (maybe another 1/2 mile).
Make a left onto 340S.
Approx 1/2 mile down 340S you will see the entrance to Skyline Drive on your left.

As gfactor said watch out for the cops. There is a lot to do in that area it just depends on what your idea of fun is. You could canoe, golf, tour wineries, antique shop, hike, fish or just drive back roads.
