Default Shop Near Alexandria to Drill/Weld OEM Exhaust

I'm looking to do the UK mod on my OEM exhaust, but I don't know any shops in NOVA equipped and willing to do such a job. The local places I've contacted don't seem to do custom exhaust modifications. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance!

Hi Artin. Thanks for the response... It looks like you have quite the shop in Sterling. I just sent you an email, so feel free to reply to that. Thanks!

For those of you interested in this mod, I think the most comprehensive post can be found here:
https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/944056-exhaust-mod/

I also attached a few pictures from that link. Based on that post and a bunch of other links here on S2ki, YouTube, etc, the mod only seems to require approximately 4 inches of pipe. After hearing the YouTube videos, I probably would want to go with a pipe that has an inside diameter of 38mm or so. I would use equipment at my parents' place, as the cutting and welding look straightforward, but I'm not hauling it 1000 miles!

Hi all. It's been a 1.5 months since my last post on this topic, but I wanted to wrap-up this project for you in case you happen to be interested in the same modification. I did not have the easiest time finding a welder or exhaust pipe, so I figured that I would pass along what/who worked best for me.

I searched craiglist for a welder, and found Damon (damhow@gmail.com) who is a really solid dude in Woodbridge. He also happen to provide the least expensive quote for the job... that was a win-win for me! Anyway, I wanted to give him a plug for his fine work (picture of his handywork included for your viewing pleasure).

Finally, the best option I found for exhaust piping/tubing was on Ebay at: http://www.ebay.com/itm/110353368140...S:1123&vxp=mtr

I hope this all helps!

Thanks for posting and updating. This helped me a lot!!

1.6 inch is pretty big isn't it? I'm thinking something more like 1-1.3 inch is plenty and sound good as well.

Sound clips?

I'm glad to hear these posts help.

The inside diameter (ID) of the pipe actually is 1.5 inches (or 38mm), and I don't think that I'd want to go any larger. After viewing a bunch of sound clips and reading subjective descriptions in various posts for pipes ranging from 1 to 2 inches (maybe even a bit larger), I decided that 1.5 ID pipe probably was a decent middle ground. Opinions vary of course, but it seems that a number of people with 1-inch ID pipes installed larger ones and those with 1.5 ID were pretty happy.

I also bought a separate OEM exhaust to do the modification (my '04 only has 23k miles and I don't want to modify anything including the original exhaust), so I figured that I could reinstall my original OEM exhaust if this UK mod proves to be too loud for me.

I don't have any sound clips yet. I spent the little time I had last weekend brushing and painting the pipes and welds, so I actually have not even installed it yet. With that said, I wish I could have heard one in person before deciding on a size.

I finally got around to recording the sound. I actually recorded 4 videos, but only one of them doesn't have my wife talking during it.

It is true what I read about the exhaust not droning at cruising speeds with the UK Mod. To me, the mod gives the exhaust a nice sharp bark when you give the pedal a push, which I really like when rev-matching to catch a lower gear. I'm not a "look-at-me" kind of person, so I wouldn't go any larger than the size of pipe that I used for this UK Mod (38mm ID).

Anyway, here is the video:
