Default Road trip in SW Virginia

Hey All,

I discovered the finest road I have ever driven on in.

Rt 16 South from Tazewell VA on my way to Mt Rogers
(highest mtn in VA 5729 ft). Maybe a 50 mile stretch
of driving nirvana.

I have never been on a roller coaster like this, almost all 2nd gear corners and left.right, left right chicane like sections where you are turning the wheel as fast at you can to make the corner. My arms were really tired after this, and I think I may have killed my tires. Also there was no guard rail in lots of places, if you miss a corner....you are

If you enjoy spirited canyon carving, this road (rt 58 too) is a must drive.

There are so many nice roads like that around SW Virginia. Rt. 8 is also worth driving. Someone should definitely arrange a meet in this area. I think everyone would enjoy it.

Thanks for the info. That is too far from DC for a semi-informal morning drive, somebody should organize a drive.

I am spoiled now, all the driving around here is boring to me now.

I will be going back this Summer, its a long haul anyway you look at it, would have to be a overnight drive. I will add Rt 8 to my list.

FYI I also drove though a large portion of West VA on Sat and Sunday morning also, while the scenery and the twistyness of the roads are similar, there is still a lot of gravel in the corners. Not so on the VA roads, they are in much better shape.

I'm in that area about once a month. Actually, we have a house in Grayson County (where I grew up, many, many years ago!) I try to ride up Rt 58 from Independence over Mt. Rogers to Damascus a least once every year. Beautiful scenery and great driving. Makes me go and
