Will it be open passing this year during practice on Sunday?
The only group that gets anything close to resembling "Open Passing" is the Unlimited Class. Most of the guys out there are "pros" or have a TON of on track experience.

Street and Mod will still require point-bys and only in approved passing zones.

Saturday is a Point By day as well....

hmmm...interesting.
Yup... For this season the tires are the big difference maker.

RE01R's are damn fast Street tires.. but still no match for the NT-01s... Same car, skilled driver, but running NT-01 vs RE01Rs... will probably see a reduction in lap times of around 2-3 seconds.

We are more than likely going to implement a rule next year limiting the power that can be made in Street Class..... How we go about limiting the power and enforcing it, is being determined at this time.

ANd yes, for this year, all Street Class cars MUST have a functioning Cat installed as part of the exhaust system.

I think it's a good idea to put more restrictions for the street class. I think it could make more of the field more competitive and keep costs down at the same time too.

What the heck was up with the point-by rules last year then? It was pretty much no rules, or what I observed anyway. I was actually waiting for a point-by from one of the cars for like 3 laps, before I said screw it. Especially, since other cars do it. I would definitely make sure people know the point-by implementation this year.

Hobbs you should get ITBs for Redline.

It would probably be faster at Shen than my Comptech.

Haha. I'll probably go with a supercharger down the road instead of ITB's. So, you have a comptech supercharger on your car right now? I'm assuming so based on what you said about losing 10 rwhp if you reinstall the cat.

Yeah, the car dynoed at 318/191. So, I'll probably have a little over 370rwhp after I install the cat...

...oh yeah, and a 3.2" pulley.

Nice. You definitely have to sign up for this event then.

I agree about the point-by rules. It needs to be 100% clear as to what the deal is.

The thing we seem to have a problem with, is guys zone in to what they are doing on the track, and forget to issue a point-by to the car behind them. You may have a car that is more than capable of passing them down the straight at will.... in those cases, you either make the pass without the point-by (safely) or you exit the track, go to Hot Pit and wait to be sent back out onto the track.

This is where the flaggers are supposed to be doing their job. If they aren't issuing the "Passing" flag, then I need to know about it. If they are issuing the Passing flag, and the guy is ignoring it, I need to know about it. :-)

We're talking about Summit Point here... not VIR. We're lucky if the flaggers are awake and have radios.

Do past winners get a discount to defend their titles?
