Reckless driving ticket in VA , pls help
#51
A couple of years ago I was lasered going 75 in a 55 (funny how it was just exactly enough for reckless driving). Anyway, I paid $500 for a lawyer, got a copy of my driving record (it was clean going back 5 years) and a speedo calibration.
Almost everyone that was in court for the same thing without a lawyer didn't fare so well. My lawyer did nothing except hand the judge a copy of my driving record and speedo calibration - and it was lowered to defective equipment ($50 fine I think and no points).
So, I'm not sure if the lawyer was necessary, but I suggest you definitely get one.

On a serious note (since some of us are johnnies and don't wanna help you)...let's start with the obvious stuff:
-You were going 55 in a 35...face the consequences!

A buddy of mine and I were coming out of the Fredericksburg area onto 95 when we got pulled over. Granted, he was going 120mph and I got clocked at 135 in a 65. Even with his lawyer, and the fact that I had beaten the ticket due to a ton of errors made by the cop, we still went to jail (5 days with 75 suspended) and ended up paying about 2,000 each. From the experience I can say look to have your license suspended for 6 months and a little fine (maybe no suspension but a safety course for driving or something stupid like that). The court systems are terrible in VA (I am a TX resident but stationed in VA), and it's like no matter what you do, you can't win. Good luck though!
