Lots of autocross events at Blue Crab stadium in Waldorf, if you are into that kind of thing.

There's also a lot of autocross in Landover, Bowie, Glen Burnie, and Woodbridge, VA. It's a very active area for autocross.

Glen, are you going to the season opener with Autocrossers Inc in a few weeks? I think I might make that my first AutoX event.

I can't say that there is too much going on around here but we do have a strong s2000 community even in the southern areas.

Solomons, Hollywood, California, Leoanrdtown all have good places to eat (I am not sure what you are used to)

Working at PAX will be alright. All I will say is that you will have a semi-long commute depending on where you choose to live (and if it is in Mechanicsville). Hollywood is closer and is another nice place to be with community developments featuring medium to large size family homes.
Very good info thank you. I have been looking into those areas as well. I had a second phone interview with one company at Pax, and then had two more phone interviews with a different company at Pax so I am gaining some traction on jobs down there.

I hate the city and want to be far from it (as far as living goes)!!! I enjoy driving into the city for dinner, drinks, shows etc, but I am looking for a quiet place to live with some land and neighbors that I can't hear!!!

Thanks everyone else for their input. I am more of a track guy, but perhaps I will start doing more autocrossing if its closer to me.

If you are a track guy, you should live in Northern VA. You'd be closer to Summit Point. Also, post up in our Track Junkie thread

I won't be there if it's below 40*F and icy/snowy and salty. If it's only two of those things, maybe. If only one, yes. If none, absolutely.

Haha... yeah, I'll probably use similar criteria.

I was a MD resident all my life and "defected" to Virginia in 2000. I lived in the Waldorf/Charles County area and my folks still live down that way. There are pockets of decent areas to live in Charles County, but if I were you, I'd pass. It is more expensive in Northern VA, but IMO, well worth the money and with a security clearance, there is a lot of opportunity in the Dulles corridor. Check out Ashburn, Reston, Herndon, Chantilly, Fairfax, etc as locations in your job searches.

Summit Point is about a solid hour (maybe a little more) from me (I'm in Chantilly), and I have access to countless back road twisties in wine/horse country that are wonderful in my S2000 or on my Thruxton. Oh and unlike Waldorf, I dont have to constantly worry about someone stealing my car, motorcycle, stereo, etc. No offense to any Waldorf residents, I remain close with many - but the crime and quality of life has dropped since I was a kid down there. YMMV. Good luck!

Thank you for the response. Based on everyone's posts and things I have read online I will steer clear of Waldorf!!

I am looking at the potential opportunities as a way to get back east, and then once I have a job etc I can focus on finding a job in a more ideal part of MD or VA. Right now I just need a job that covers relocation which is becoming harder to find.

Please keep the info coming though! I hear good things about Dunkirk and Calvert County but it seems to be real expensive.
