Default the quality of va drivers never ceases to amaze me

i'm driving along yorktown road about 700 o clock tonight when i notice my back left tire is flat. i pull off just about as far as i can get off the road but half of my car was still in the lane. i put my hazards on and proceeded to call my dad so he can bring me the portable inflator. i'm standing behind my car and as i turn around i see a mustang and another car following close behind it going faster than the speed limit. i jump out of the way and go OH ****! the mustang slams on his brakes and the car behind him rear ends him. the mustang then swerves out of the way from hitting me but the car that hit him had so much momentum that it still rear ended my car. at first i was pissed but then i started to think, you know its not my fault, i was stopped with my hazards on, it was a long stretch of road and it was impossible to not see me plus the damage to my bumper wasent even bad. there was some cracks where my liscense plate was from the impact but that was it (and i was picking up a spare rear bumper so i wasnt worried about the damage to begin with). i walk over to the driver of the car that hit both of us and i noticed it was an old lady (atleast 70) and she started crying saying she wasent and grabbed her ankle. the mustang turns around and parks at the school. the driver, and older man in his 70s also who was obviously her husband. he comes up to me and insist that she didnt hit me and that the damage was already on my bumper. instead of arguing i walk away. state trooper shows up and immediate blames it on me since my car could have been moved farther off the road. i started pissed at this point. i'm being as civil as i possibly can be and the accident was not my fault but everyone kept trying to make it so i was at fault. i finally just laid it out for the cop and told me i was already stopped with my hazards on before they even hit me. then he slowly started to realize that it wasent my fault and that he was a complete dick to me about it. i just dont understand how they could have even hit me in the first place. it was a WHITE car with hazards on. it was a long stretch of road so there was no way they could use the excuse that they didnt see me. in the end the lady admited to hitting me and was cited for following to close. what a ****ing headache. i'm just glad i turned around in time to see the mustang bc i would got sandwiched between the cars.

Cliffnotes
got a flat
while parked i got hit
state trooper immediately blamed me
things cleared up and i didnt get a ticket.

Why is that the police ALWAYS automatically blame the sports car? I'm so sick of the injustice that goes on in America!!

Glad you ok EJ...

First and foremost, glad to hear you(or anyone else for that matter) were not hurt.

Reading your commentary, I would have to say that I would have put you at fault, too. Apparently there is a school parking area near where you pulled off. Additionally, you mention that half of your car is stopped in the roadway. Based solely on what you shared with us here, I would put you at fault, too.

And from driving I-95 nearly everyday of the year and having lived in four vastly different regions of the US(having a license in all four), I can, with all my heart, tell you that I do not think VA drivers are the worst. I think that award generally goes to the PA drivers.

But most importantly, you were not hurt.

I wouldn't go that far. It's easy enough to say that he could have pulled off in a parking lot somewhere, but creeping down a road with no real shoulder on a flat tire isn't a very good way to do that. Even so, it is incumbent on other drivers to be alert for possible obstructions in the road (cars, trees, dogs, etc.) and avoid them in a controlled manner.
